Two layers every small business should have: endpoint and email security

Two layers every small business should have: endpoint and email security

Most small business breaches come in through one of two doors: a device that gets infected, or an email that tricks someone. So the two protections I put in place first are endpoint security and email filtering. Here is why each matters and how they work together.

Endpoint protection

This guards the actual devices: laptops, desktops, servers. A good endpoint product, like Bitdefender, catches malware and ransomware before it spreads, and it runs quietly without slowing the machine down. It is the safety net for when something does get clicked.

Email filtering

Most attacks start in the inbox. Email filtering, like SpamTitan, blocks phishing, spam, and malicious attachments before they reach your team. Since email is the most common way in, this is where filtering pays for itself fastest.

Why both, not one

Email filtering stops most threats at the door. Endpoint protection catches what slips through. Run only one and you have a gap. Run both and you cover the two ways most small businesses actually get hit, without enterprise pricing or complexity.

If you are not sure what is protecting your devices and email right now, that is worth a quick look. I can tell you where the gaps are.
